Uniting
The whole country knows by now about the assassination attempt of Donald Trump, and the first thing that came into my mind is… does it really take a president to be killed or to almost be killed to unite the country? Why were we not united during any of the mass school shootings or mass shootings in general? Why didn’t any of the presidents try to cool down the rhetoric back then? When Donald Trump entered the RNC Convention last night, he appeared to be crying almost, or at least that’s what it looked like. Does it really take an assassination attempt on you, speaking in general, to change your views on life? I would think that it would be changed when a bunch of innocent children are murdered for no reason at all. I do agree that we need to tone down the political temperature and the temperature all together in this country.
Why is it that when one enters politics, their tongues are tied and crooked and cannot give a straight answer to questions? Even if it is a yes or no answer, they cannot simply answer yes or no; it seems as if they are scared of even whispering the truth. This reminds me of the famous quote from the poem Lays of Ancient Rome by Thomas Babington Macaulay, “Then out spake brave Horatius, The Captain of the Gate: ‘To every man upon this earth Death cometh soon or late. And how can man die better then facing fearful odds, For the ashes of his fathers And the Temps of his Gods.”
