Prince Frederick of Luxembourg Dies of POLG at 22 Years Old
Prince Frederick, the son of Prince Robert of Luxembourg and his mother Princess Julie of Nassau died in Paris of a rare disease called POLG mitochondrial disease at 22 years old. It is a disease that affects about 300 million people worldwide and has such a wide range of symptoms as well as affecting many organ systems in our body. Prince Robert said, “ As is the case for 300 million people like Frederick worldwide, these diseases are usually hard to recognize even by physicians, and patients’ families may never know what they are suffering from as they may only be identified very late in their progression.” That reminds me of when my parents found out that I had Velo Cardio Facial Syndrome (VCFS). There is a wide range of symptoms, and they often look like other syndromes. I wasn’t diagnosed until I was fourteen. If you think there is something different with you, it is always better to get diagnosed and then to pretend that there is nothing wrong with you at all. Just another reason I created InqludedU.com, formerly FriendsOfQuinn.com.
