It's Back To School
School has changed so much since I went to school; for one, I don’t even think teachers use chalkboards anymore. I almost forgot about going back to school, but I have started to think about it since I have been married to Fabiola, who does most of the work, taking her daughter, Khloe, to school. Yesterday, we were visiting family and went out to get a quick bite to eat beforehand. She was showing me this sweater that she really liked from Lululemon; Khloe told me that she had shown it to one of her friends, who told Khloe, “That's so preppy.” I immediately tried to explain to Khloe her friend was wrong and that she didn’t know what the term preppy meant and tried to explain to Khloe the definition of preppy. Khloe cut me off right away and said, “There’s a new preppy, you're thinking about the old preppy.” I was almost dumbfounded. Grade school jargon has changed so much, even in just 20 years. It almost seems like my school days are a bygone era. One thing I have learned is that when you have a tween girl, you're going to learn a lot of new made-up words, and after all, teenage girls have led language innovation for centuries.
