The gun violence epidemic in this country needs to stop

It is simply ridiculous to me that the US government is allowing this gun violence epidemic to carry on. They need to make an impactful change that stops this violence from occurring so regularly. It almost seems like the only time they make real change is if they are personally affected by a tragedy that so many Americans are affected by. In most mass shootings there is a common denominator of mental health at play, from depression to true psychosis, the shooters are not given the mental support that they need, but can easily find a gun. I think there are many ways to solve this but here are a few of my ideas; if we must have guns, then at least make them have safety features like fingerprint recognition so that only 1 person who’s been fully qualified can use such a weapon. Then, make sure that everyone has a full mental health screening as a part of getting a gun. If they have members of their family that may have mental health issues then don’t let a gun be in the household at all. 

I give those as solutions because they still allow guns, and we know that there will always be a huge part of the American population (myself included) who support the second amendment. That being said, we all need to remember that the United States Constitution was written 247 years ago after the Revolutionary War; they still needed to have guns, and the guns that they had were much less deadly. I like to think that if the Founding Fathers knew what modern weapons would look like, they would have modified the right to bear arms. I feel that if the epidemic of gun violence in this country doesn’t change that every American will eventually be affected. One last thought I had about fixing this problem would involve the president. He could address the nation and say that until this epidemic of mass shootings stops, the government will be confiscating every single gun from every single person, and then you will receive your gun back when it is all over.
