2022 Midterm Elections

Voting is always important because without it we would not have a democracy, but this year it is especially important. There are so many issues at stake that could impact how well our democracy runs, and how truthful it is. Truth and honesty are pillars of democracy, so we must be honest when we, The People of the United States, vote or get elected into office. President George Washington said in his farewell address, “I hold the maxim no less applicable to public than to private affairs, that honesty is the best policy.” Not only do we have the right to vote, but we also have an obligation to vote when so much is at stake. 

I saw on the news that people are heckling voters at mail-in ballot drop boxes. This action may be the most un-American thing that I have seen since the Capitol riots. We are forgetting our roots, like why Americans fought a little war called the American Revolutionary War. It was so we could vote for the things that we believe in and keep our freedom. President John Adams said about voting, “Lads from 12 to 21 will think their rights not enough attended to, and every man, who has not a [dime], will demand an equal voice with any other in all acts of state.” Of course, now we know that anyone can vote as long as they are 18, but the idea is still relevant. I just hope that everyone will use their voice in this upcoming election.
